Planting Comfrey Around Fruit Trees

Comfrey growing around pear tree.

Comfey serves a lot of functions when planted around trees, especially fruit trees. It makes a great ground cover which prevents weeds and retains moisture in the soil, it draws in pollinators when it flowers and provides habitat for other beneficial bugs and worms, it provides nutrients for the tree as it dies back and one thing it does that I didn't anticipate when I planted it is that it provides an insulation mulch for the roots and trunk in the winter.

All this and I think it looks pretty good around a tree too.
